22. Living on the Rainbow 3D Haunted House

Living on the Rainbow 3D Haunted House
stitched on 32 count purple linen

I changed the finishing method a bit.
Instead of using iron-on interfacing, I mounted each piece on thin card.

I whipstitched the four sides together.

Then I stitched the roof on three sides from the back, turned it right way out, inserted some thin card and whipstitched the fourth side shut.

I backstitched along the top to make a ridge in the roof then stitched the roof to the four walls.
(that was the hardest part in the process)

I stuffed the house with pillow stuffing.

Finally, I covered a piece of thin card in linen and stitched it to the bottom of the house.

Here it is with the 3D Mansion from World of Cross Stitching magazine:

19. Joan Elliott Faces SAL

Joan Elliott Faces SAL
Stitched on 28 count Snapdragon Jazlyn from Crafty Kitten

Started in 2014.  Joan released a block each month featuring an adapted face from one of her existing designs.

I decided to stitch the skin on the first face over one and was really pleased with how she turned out.

The second block was charted as a rather chonky cat which I wasn't fan of so I left that block blank.

I did complete the centre with some lovely over one butterflies from another of Joan's fairies

I eventually stitched this lovely owl:

When the third block was released I just stalled on the skin as there was so much of it!

I finally completed her in 2020 and  decided to focus on just one or two blocks per year and work through them all in time.

The owl and the dragon were completed in 2021

The unicorn and the beading on the centre block were 2022

This pair were completed in 2023

And the final two blocks in 2024, just in time for it's 10th Birthday!

I framed it in a raw wood box frame that I painted to co-ordinate with the fabric.

13. Circle Cross Blackwork Tarot Zodiac

Circle Cross Blackwork Art Nouveau Tarot Zodiac
Stitched on 28 count sky blue evenweave from Silkweavers

I started with the four elements at the top of the fabric

Then stitched each of the star signs in their relevant month under the element they belong to

I did change Cancer as the chart showed her with a crayfish rather than the crab that most British people associate with the sign.
I had a lovely chat with the designer who revealed that in some cultures they use a crayfish or lobster as the star constellation does resemble them more than a crab.

I added beads to form the constellations in each sign.
